The Finish Line

Jacquie ooh

I don’t know about you, but the end of the year leaves me feeling one feeling above all else—overwhelmed! It always sneaks up on me and I find myself buried in to-do lists, not to mention feeling not too good about all the goals I set for myself that I may not be able to accomplish.

Perhaps you are feeling the same way as the end of the year approaches—like you can’t keep your head above water. I know exactly how that feels, and despite those feelings, you can still finish the year strong. With the holiday season coming into view, it’s tempting to take your foot off the gas and cruise towards the year’s end. Don’t. These last few months are when you should be making the most of those lessons learned and preparing for the year ahead. So, rather than just counting down until the new year keep pushing and moving so that you can finish your year strong!

I believe we all start out the gate strong and ready to go, our intentions are great, and we’re excited about what we have set out to do, however there is something called “life”. Simply put, “life” comes along with us to where the goals we set out at the beginning of the new year get lost in the shuffle. Life can throw us off track sometimes to where we lose hope of finishing, lose our focus, our energy, our confidence, and our commitment to the goal.

One thing that has helped me when I have fallen short on completing all my goals for the year was to focus on my progress. Focus on the progress you’ve made throughout too year to help you finish the year strong. Think back on your progress this year. What did you achieve? Don’t put a judgment on whether it was as much as you hoped to achieve but look at what you achieved. Maybe you paid off some debt, or improved a relationship, or achieved a goal. Celebrate it, be proud of yourself! Focusing on the good is always better than focusing on the bad.

You might not be able to meet all your 2022 goals by the end of the year, but you can finish the year strong by prioritizing the things that you can control by the end of the year. What CAN you do? Are there steps you can take towards meeting some of your goals? If so, do those things! If not, don’t sweat it. Refocus and recommit to the things you can accomplish before the end of the year.

Even if you might not be able to accomplish everything you intended to accomplish by the end of the year, so what? You can accomplish something. And remember your progress!

Here are 7 keys to finishing strong.

  • Have clear measurable GOALS (S.M.A.R.T.).

  • Make a COMMITMENT: it is amazing what changes when we commit to something.

  • Remember YOUR PURPOSE, YOUR WHY; purpose directs the path to your goal; without a purpose it becomes easy to drift from thing to thing.

  • PATIENCE: in every challenge there are highs and lows. Patience provides the space to think and believe deeply in your success to finish strong.

  • PASSION: the most important thing is to love what we do. Enthusiasm creates energy, passion provides the emotion. Energy + Passion = Finish Strong!

  • STRENGTH: much more than size or power, strength is your character, your WILL to succeed, your mental toughness, your ability to forgive, and what makes a great leader.

  • INTEGRITY; the centerpiece of character. The slightest compromise of your integrity will leave your character flawed in some way. It’s important to choose your thoughts, your words, and your actions carefully.
